Students of UFV and THUAS connected – together with students from MERI India – in a hybrid project on the topic of personal leadership.
The first three weeks were focused on Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of highly effective people and the last three weeks on the link of Personal Leadership & Core Principles of EU with Schuman’s paradigm of person and common good, reconciliation, solidarity, subsidiarity and supra-nationality and current EU issues. The topics of all six weeks touched upon each person’s life and the exchanges of thoughts were extremely fascinating. Like every year, the online course was followed by a physical get together during the Annual International Schuman Student Congress, for which 23 students and 3 professors from UFV were present in the Hague.

What entails sustainability as a competence? Around these questions several teachers and researchers of THN met in The Hague. Institutions of Higher Education have a moral and societal duty to prepare our students to be world citizens who consider the societal and environmental impact of their actions. By raising awareness of climate-related issues as well as frameworks through which students, and future rofessionals, can reflect on their environmental impact higher education institutions will be able to increase their impact in the fight against climate change. This in turn will encourage increase civic engagement as students (and graduates) as agents of change who are active citizens. Colleagues from Spain, Czech Republic, Finland and the UK held lively discussion around this theme and the GreenComp, a reference framework for sustainability competences and how to let these concretely land in our curricula. The colleagues intend to hand in a KA2 call early 2025 on this particular topic.

The first participants from HSRW received their certificates for the THN-VE. A total of 15 students from all four faculties successfully completed their virtual exchange. Feedback from students on the courses has been overwhelmingly positive. Just the registration process for the courses was a bit challenging depending on how many courses were chosen. Students would like to have one central registration for this: “Despite early problems registering with the partner universities and accessing courses, the experience was definitely worth it in the end,” said Celine Balle, student at HSRW. “My degree programme in International Relations also offers a module on Intercultural Management, but the module offered by our partner university in Spain was structured very differently and offered other perspectives and approaches to the topic. We all found it very interesting.”
